How to access and take screenshots of network events in your browser

Are you receiving error messages but can't figure out what's causing them? The Appointlet support team is here to help. However, troubleshooting these errors occasionally requires some digging and we don't always have immediate access to the information we need. That being said, we may ask you to take screenshots of your browser's network events log.

This guide will walk you through the steps to find and capture the right images of this information in Google Chrome so we can take a closer look and alleviate your error message headaches.

Inspect the Problem Page

You can inspect any page in your browser, and in the instance of persistent error messages, you'll need to inspect the page that is giving you trouble. To do so, right click anywhere in the browser window and click on the Inspect option at the bottom of the list.

This will open a new window on the right side of your screen which contains detailed information about your current browsing session. To view the network events, navigate to the menu bar at the top of this window and select the Network category.

Now that the network information is displayed, we'll need the most up-to-date information we can get to properly assess the issue. To load the latest information, refresh your page.

Now the network events log is ready to track new information. While the network events log is open, click through the page as you normally would until you run into the error. Once the error occurs, it will be recorded in the network events log, at which point it will be ready for you to capture in an image.

Mac

For Mac users, press and hold Command + Shift + 4 and then click, hold and drag to select an area of your screen you wish to capture as a .PNG file. By default, Mac screenshots are saved to your desktop automatically.

Make sure to capture both the page and the inspection window so we can clearly see which steps you took before the error occurred.

The final step is to either drag the image into the support chat or upload it as an attachment and our support staff will review it.

Windows

At this point, you have accessed the information we need to help resolve your issue. But in order for us to see it, we'll need you to send us a screenshot of everything on your screen so we can see which windows correspond to network events. There are a few ways to do this.

For Windows users, you can either use Snip and Sketch by pressing the keyboard shortcut Windows + Shift + S, or navigate to the search bar at the bottom left of your screen and search for the Snipping Tool. These applications work similarly: left click, hold and drag to select the area on your screen you wish to save as a .PNG image, and then release to capture the selected area.

Please note that when using the Snipping Tool, you'll need to click "New" in the Snipping Tool window to begin snipping.

Both applications will display a preview of the captured image and will prompt you to save or edit. Be sure to save it somewhere that's easy to find such as your desktop or Pictures folder.

The final step is to either drag the image into the support chat or upload it as an attachment and our support staff will review it.

Complex Troubleshooting

If we are unable to identify the problem using the screenshot you provided, we may in fact need to dig deeper. This will involve taking another screenshot using the same methods outlined above, but this time we will examine the detailed properties of the error.
